Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) is the first movie in the saga directed by George Lucas. It tells the story of Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi's mission to planet Naboo, where they must escort Queen Amidala while the Trade Federation imposes a blockade. On their journey to Tatooine they discover young Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy with extraordinary potential in the Force. The movie introduces the concept of midichlorians and presents Darth Maul as the main antagonist with his iconic double-bladed lightsaber. It was pioneering in extensive use of CGI to create complete environments like Naboo and Theed.
